I'll give it five stars when the firmware is working better. I upgraded to Firmware version 1.01 (released about 2 days before this review update) before setting up the router. The speed is incredible, but there are still some issues, which I'm sure will be addressed with future firmware updates: 1) The SD and USB port streams movies flawlessly. I wasn't able to get a USB hard drive (Western Digital) to work, but my 16 GB USB stick worked very well. I was able to access the USB stick remotely through the internet (non-LAN connection) using the Admin account. I was unsuccessful in creating another user account, so for now, the admin account must be used to log into the "YourIP:8181" port. My Windows 7 machine could not map the USB Drive or SD Card to upload any files. I had to do it a single file at a time through the... My old router worked wonderfully; however, the range was not as great after I moved office location. I have always had a great user experience with D-Link products; therefore, I chose this router over the new Netgear R6300 even though the later has the new 802.11ac draft technology. I am not a fan of Netgear after having one that always dropped the signal. A couple of friends also currently use Netgear routers and they have to reboot it daily (that was my experience for a hole month and, thus, my switch to D-Link which I never had to reboot it since installation).After finding out that D-link had this new router and after reading many reviews on the DIR-857, it was a no brainer decision. Returned the Repeater and went in with the DIR-857. It has been working superbly for multiple laptops, multiple tablets, Apple TV and three PS3. Cannot go wrong with this product, also it is IPV6 ready. |
